In 2010, economy in more countries begins to revive and welcomes a spring. However, for Chinese ceramics which has just undergone a prosperous 2009, the problem to reflect upon in 2010 is when the summer of Chinese ceramics will come.
The industry generally believes that China's sustained economic growth, the urbanization of China and the policy of building materials going to the countryside will further promote the growth of ceramic demands. It is pointed out by the report World Economic Situation and Prospects 2010 published by the United Nations that the world economy in 2010 will rebound under the lead of developing countries and achieve a growth of 2.4%. It also predicted that China's economy will grow by 8.8%. A report made by McKinsey Global Institute in 2008 on China’s urbanization pace and pattern shows that China's urban population may increase by nearly 400 million by 2030 to be 1 billion in total. In addition, President Hu Jintao has resisted pressure from President Obama to raise the value of the Chinese yuan and Chinese Government’s firm stance on RMB revaluation problem ensures that China continues maintaining a price advantage in the international market.
Another main task in 2009 for China’s economy was the structural adjustment. Last year, more than 40 billion yuan were invested by Guangdong for promoting the “Double Shift” and the province will invest 10 billion yuan this year to promote the development of strategic new industries. As the center of Chinese ceramic industry, Guangdong Foshan has also been accelerating the pace of industrial upgrade, the production of innovative and high-end products,as well as the global market share of high-end ceramics. Further more, some Foshan entrepreneurs have established factories and showrooms in Europe. Last month, delegates from Turkish Ceramic Confederation visited China and expressed the wish to expand bilateral collaboration since they ‘discovered’ high-quality ceramic products in Foshan.
The 6th China Ceramic Pioneers List (CCPL) jointly sponsored by China Ceramic Industry Association and Ceramic Town Weekly was announced on March 28. "Low carbon" became a feature on the list. Chen Fan and Xu Ping won the “Golden clay Award” due to their outstanding contributions to the promotion of Laminatic Porcelain Panel. In 2009, Chinese government introduced a series of policies to encourage the production of low-carbon products. In 2010, drought and other energy crisis will urge the Government to make greater efforts to encourage the low-carbon economy development. For Chinese ceramic enterprises, the importance attached to environmental protection by consumers and the more and more expensive resources have forced them to consider taking more energy-efficient production methods to reduce costs. The year 2010 will be a promise year for low-carbon products.
